Spacesaver Stair FAQs

| What
floor height is available from the standard spacesaver staircase kits?
The
spacesaver staircases vary in the number of risers in the standard
kits. Our regs require a maximum individual tread rise
of 22cm, and care should be taken to order a staircase which
provides enough rises. For the Karina stair kit however, the staircase is made in Italy and can be
installed with a tread rise of up to 23.5m to comply with
regulations in the rest of Europe. It is important that you
are aware of this when looking at details for the Italian staircases
in the brochure and on other websites. We are always happy to
advise on the options for your project. |

| What
if my floor height is lower or higher than the standard kit height?
If you have a lower
floor to floor height, you will probably just use less of the treads
supplied in the kit, or cut down the standard flight supplied, and we would always be happy to advise you on this. If you
floor height is greater, then we may offer additional tread kits
and you'll find more details on the accessories
page. |

| Do
the Spacesaver stairs comply with UK Building Regulations?
The UK Building
Regulations cover the use of the "alternate" tread format
of staircase - the spacesaver. This covers
access to a single bedroom and should be within certain
restrictions, i.e. with a maximum tread rise of 220mm, with a
handrail on both sides, and in a straight flight.

You would also need
to install riserbars to fit between the open treads to comply with
the Building Regulations' 100mm gap rule. These are also available
on our accessories
page. In
practice, there are many variations available for the spacesavers
and we always recommend that you discuss your project with your
local Building Control Department. |

| I'm
slightly worried about my children slipping on the timber treads when they
use the staircase with their socks on!
The timber treads
still retain a very slightly grainy texture to them but, if you want
to add some extra non-slip treatment, then buy our special Oakleaf
Clear Grip Strip shown on our accessories
page.
This is a cheap and quick way to add a durable non-slip treatment
that is friendly on bare feet! |
