| What
would be the size of the opening in the ceiling for my Kompact
staircase? In
general, the ceiling opening would need to be the same dimensions as
the staircase less two treads unless you have a low ceiling.
There should always be a minimum headroom of 2m (78") measured from the
pitch line of the staircase.

| I've
seen a support pole in some of the photos. What is this for
and do I need to install it? This
support pole (G08) provides additional stability to the Kompact and
should be installed. The instructions show you exactly where
to place this pole depending on the configuration of your
staircase. It can be fitted down to the floor or sideways into
the adjoining wall if necessary. You can download the Installation
Instructions from our Services
Page.

| What
floor height is available from the standard Kompact kit?
The
standard Kompact kit of 13 risers will fit a floor to floor height
of up to 2.86m (9' 4") whilst complying with the UK Building
Regulations. Our regs require a maximum individual tread rise
of 22cm; however, the staircase is made in Italy and can be
installed with a tread rise of up to 23.5m to comply with
regulations in the rest of Europe. It is important that you
are aware of this when looking at details for the Italian staircases
in the brochure and on other websites. We are always happy to
advise on the options for your project. |
|
| |
| What
if my floor height is lower or higher than the standard kit height?
If you have a lower
floor to floor height, you will probably just use less of the treads
supplied in the kit. If you floor height is greater, then we
can supply additional tread kits and you'll find more details on the
accessories
page. |
| |
| Does
the Kompact comply with UK Building Regulations?
The Kompact kit can
be installed to fully comply with the UK Building Regulations - but
it can also be installed outside the regulations! As a basic
guide, the tread rise should not exceed 22cm and the going must
always be set at a minimum 22cm. However, this may result in
the pitch being slightly steeper than the 42 degrees required and
you may need to add an additional tread or treads to make the
staircase comply. We can easily and quickly advise on your
project. You would also need to use the riserbars to fit
between the open treads to ensure compliance with the Building
Regulations' 100mm gap rule. You'll find all these on our accessories
page.
You would also need
to install balustrading on any open side of the staircase and these
are also available on our accessories
page. |
| |
| Is
it possible to connect the Kompact handrailing to some balustrading
on my top landing?
Yes, you can buy
the matching balustrading kit to use on your stairwell or mezzanine
floor, as shown on the right. You'll find more details on our accessories
page. |
| |
| |
| I'm
slightly worried about my children slipping on the treads when they
use the staircase with their socks on!
The beech treads
still retain a very slightly grainy texture to them but, if you want
to add some extra non-slip treatment, then buy our special Oakleaf
Clear Grip Strip shown on our accessories
page.
This is a cheap and quick way to add a durable non-slip treatment
that is friendly on bare feet! |
| |
| Do
I need to specify whether my Kompact needs to turn to the left or
right before I order?
No. All you
need to do is decide if you need a staircase with one quarter turn
(L shape) or two quarter turns (U shape) before you order. You
can rotate the staircase either way when you install it.

|
| |
| How
wide is the Kompact staircase? I've been told by my builder
that my staircase must be 800mm wide.
The Kompact is available in two
widths - 74cm and 89cm. However, there is now no minimum width
required for straight staircases in the Building Regulations, and it
should be ok to use the Kompact 74 for a main staircase.
(However, this does not apply in Scotland where they still require
the larger width Kompact.)

|
| |
| What
is the size of the base plate on the Kompact?
The base plate
measures 21cm diameter. |
