| Devon is renowned for its good, wholesome food. There's nothing quite like sitting in a West Country tea shop tasting warm, freshly-baked scones with layers of aromatic home-made strawberry jam and gorgeous clotted cream. But the West Country has much more to offer than just traditional cream teas. We have some of the best hotels and restaurants in the UK where they will delight you with the purest of locally produced food. Talented chefs throughout the region know that our mild climate, lush countryside and clean seas combine to provide the best ingredients anyone could want. A visit to the West Country can be a delight to all the senses! |

Lyme Regis on the Dorset coast has plenty of choice of places to eat and stay. It's a beautiful place to relax and wander around. If you fancy sitting in a dining room almost in touching distance of the sea, the Bay Hotel on Marine Parade (01297 442059) is worth a visit. It's a charming blend of old and contemporary, but sitting outside with the sun sparkling on the sea, drinking good espresso and watching the world go by, is truly therapeutic.

| Taunton, the county town of Somerset with the standardised high street, yet it still retains some handsome architecture nestling in the vibrant shopping centre. One famous eating place is The Castle Hotel which is a beautiful old building with a high reputation for quality dining. Their cafe bar, Brazz, features a superb modern menu in a really stylish setting.

Exeter is a great city, with more than its fair share of historic properties alongside the usual high-tech business parks and modern shopping malls. There is a wide variety of places to eat, from fast food chains to haute cuisine. I must admit that I can happily resist the lure of a quick burger and my bank manager objects to me sampling the delights of haute cuisine, but there are some really great places to eat good, imaginative, fresh food. One of our favourites is Puccinis, a quirky pasta restaurant which is tucked behind the historic green to the impressive Cathedral. Their food is very good - but at sensible prices and the atmosphere of the cafe is warm and welcoming - and children are welcome! In the same historic quarter of Exeter is the Royal Clarence Hotel which is owned by the famous chef Michael Caines. You will have absolutely dream food in this beautiful hotel, whether you dine in the elegant restaurant or in the Cafe Bar. www.abodehotels.co.uk
